3 Reasons You Should Go to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Seminars

I have only been to a few seminars since I started training in the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. This was because I had never really grasped the importance of them until recently. Last weekend I had the opportunity to be part of a seminar with the legendary Rickson Gracie and it was a life changing experience. After reflecting on how mind opening and amazing the seminar was, I think I finally understand the importance of seminars. These are my three reasons why you need to embrace every seminar opportunity you can get.

1. Perspective – The greatest take away from seminars is being able to gain some new perspective from the world’s greatest fighters. Having someone who is a thought leader in his or her profession can help give you mind-altering ways of looking at things. For example, Rickson opened my mind to the importance of proper breathing techniques. Without his seminar, I would never even thought about the importance of breathing. Just think about how these world-class fighters can pass down their hard earned knowledge to you!

2. Saving time – I had never thought about saving time as an important take away of seminars until my friend Mark had mentioned something about it. He explained that certain techniques learned from seminars people could learn without the seminar with years of training. However, by going to the seminar and having knowledge fed to you, it can help save you anywhere from six months to five years. Essentially by going to seminars and having the best of the best pass down their knowledge, it can literally allow you to skip months of personal trial and error. Looking at seminars from this perspective makes seminars extremely cost efficient!

3. Sick techniquesLets face it, the moves taught at seminars are extremely kickass. Seminars are like the Christmas morning of BJJ classes. The best moves are unwrapped and given as a present to seminar attendees and they will set you apart from your competition. I use multiple moves from seminars to this day!
